Countless Second Chances We've Been Given

Jan 9, 2015

Hello there everyone!! It's been way way way too long since I've updated my blog, I realize this. It's also been a very crazy time of transition life change. I kinda kept my blog up over the summer, so it's not really news that Nate and I are no longer in the Sacramento area. We now live in Napa CA. We moved in June, so we experienced the earthquake. If you saw the news on the quake you saw a lot of damage. Nate and I were spared...big time. We didn't have to move, we didn't lose anything expensive or special, and most importantly we were completely safe. It was scary, but we survived.

With the new year already in full swing, I actually have thought of a few goals I'd like to accomplish to this year! Here they are:

1. Write more songs. In my former life I was a singer/songwriter and did a significant amount traveling/performing. I'd like to do more of that. Nate suprised me by getting me the ukulele of my dreams for Christmas. I had bought a cheap one online so I could learn to play, but the one Nate got me is so beautiful and sounds so much better. They're also a lot easier to travel with than a Piano; which is my primary instrument. I've been playing for about a month now... I'm okay. I'd really like to get super good. As you can see, Oscar is way impressed with my rendition of "Rainbow Connection".
Nate an I did some recording this year. This has been an awesome addition to our married life. Being creative together has helped us learn stuff about each other we didn't know before. It's been really fun, and challenging writing and playing together. I've never wanted to punch someone I loved in the face before :)
2. Take more pictures!
I found an old Polaroid land camera in my Grandma's stuff after she passed away this past year in November. I also found this little green camera at an antique store. I wasn't sure if it worked or not, so I did a research and bought some film for it. Turns out this little camera is broken, but it sparked a new interest/hobby in vintage cameras and film photography. Don't expect any "Parrish the Thought Photography" instagram account or anything, but I do need to get better at taking pictures of stuff that matters,

3. Get a hair cut. A real one.
This is a screenshot of my iPad. It has taken me 5 years to grow my hair to this length from a close-cut pixie cut. I've endured the shaggy Justin Beiber phase (featured here). I venteured away from my very trusted hairstylist and received one of the WORST haircuts ever, and recovered.
Sometimes my long hair looks awesome, like this:
but usually it's really dirty and gross and looks like this:
The truth is, I really just don't have the time necessary to have long hair. Not to mention that my hair just isn't healthy, and it needs to start over. I'm thinking bob with baby bangs.  It would be easy and still way stylish. I dont know. But my goal is to get a significant cut. I like this one... we'll see...maybe not so short. See, there I go.
4. Blog more. This has been my goal for a long time. I love Parrish The Thought. I know it doesn't really seem like it. But I do. I don't have a lap top or the internet, so finding time and resources is hard. But I think if I were to have a lap top it might be easier to get this kind of thing done.

Anyways, lots of new things on the horizon. New music, new hair, new... everything! I have spiritual goals as well, but that is post all it's own. See you soon!

It's Not That You Should Care, I Just Wanted You To Know

Feb 29, 2012

Hello everyone! I feel like it's been forever since I've posted anything. I know it's really just been a few days, but it feels like a long time to me! Anyways the reason for the little break has been because of two things: I have no clean clothes, and I have no time.
Life has just continued to get more crazy, and while I'm loving it, some things kind of have to be put further back on the shelf, and since this blog will not be a determining factor as to whether or not I'll be graduating from college, it's rank on the list of priorities is relatively low. Sorry.
I remember this time last spring semester school was unflinchingly crazy, so I'm not surprised, but I really do hate not having the time to blog and relax. blogging relaxes me! Any of you blogging peoples out there, do you relate?
Anyways, here's my outfit of the day. This sweater is actually in my shop right now for sale. The collar on this sweater is what really drew me to it. I love the peter-pan-ness of it, and the little rhinestones... they're cute and tasteful not crazy like a rock-of-love contestant.

The dress under the sweater is such an old stand-by. It's strapless so it really does go under anything, and since it's smocked, I can totally adjust it to make it longer or shorter. And while I'm really not emotionally attached to my clothes, I got engaged in this dress at disneyland, so I really love it for that reason as well.

Well you guys, thats about it for me today! Don't forget to stop by the shop and check out all the goodies, that are no 20% off with coupon! Also, if you're a current WJU student at the Rocklin Campus, your shipping is free!!

See you soon!!

O Pioneers!

Feb 16, 2012

Hello Everyone! Happy Thursday to you! I hope your week has been going well. Mine's been surprisingly low-key. One thing I really love about having 11.5 units my graduating semester is that I have hardly any homework! I mean, I do have internship stuff, but thats like...seriously nothing. So I have plenty of time to devote to my blog! Hooray! Actually... I do have to do housework as well. Darn.

Anyways! This is what I decided to wear today. Have you ever read any books by the author, Willa Cather? Her books are brilliant, and wayyy under-rated. She wrote my favoritist book of all time, O Pioneers! I know, I'm a pretty big user of exclamation points, but there actually is one in this title. Anyways, I feel like this dress would be something someone would wear in one of her books. It's kind of pioneery... I think it's the sleeves

I really love the fishtale style of this skirt. The ruffle is so nice on it. It's so girly and summery. I can't wait until the weather really warms up and I won't have to wear tights on it!
I'm not sure you can really tell, but I let my hair air dry today...that means it's huge and weair and wavy. So I kind of pinned it back. I think the hairstyle also lends to the pioneer-y way of this outfit.

Isn't this print precious! It's little birdies!

Well everyone, thats about it for me today. Our music department is gearing up for the major fundraising dinner, we call it the "Night Of Classics", and the them this year is The magic of DISNEY!!! I am so excited! They are doing a gigantic Mary Poppins medley... What a way to finish your college career! No one on this earth loves Julie Andrews like I do,  I'm very excited about it! But I have to learn the songs like the back of my hand so I can audition for them! We'll see. Anyways, that's what I'll be doing!  See you soon!

Valentine's Day Feature!! Two Happy Hearts!!

Feb 13, 2012

Hello Everyone! It's never too late for a post, am I right? If you're wondering, I am right. I am really super excietd about this post. I know sometimes are anti-Valentine's day, but let me tell you something right now: I am not. I am pro valentines day for two reasons. 1) It's fun to designate a day for pouring your love on people more that normal. 2) Pink and Red are the colors your face turns when you blush when you fall in love, and if you wanna look like you're in love, wear pink and red. No better time than Valentine's day!

Anyways! Tonights post is one that I am wayyyy too excited to share. This lovely lady is a blogging friend of mine that I asked to do a Valentine feature and when she graciously agreed, I was ecstatic. This is Christen from Two Happy Hearts! Enjoy!!

Hello there Parrish the Thought readers! My name is Christen and I run my blog, Two Happy Hearts. I love posting fun, vintage-inspired, girly outfits. I also do occasional hair tutorials, DIY crafts, and recipes.
I am so excited and honored to be featured on Rachel's lovely blog! She is quite the adorable gal, as I'm sure you all know by now ;)
Today I'm sharing a sweet & simple Valentine's Day date night outfit. This is one of my favorite dresses I picked up from H&M last fall. It's perfect and so, so, so pretty! I hope you enjoy.

Isn't she way too cute and way to sweet?! This alone should be your reason not to hate Valentine's day if you do. This is one of the blogs I frequent probably every day, and that is not a joke. Go over there! Follow Follow Follow!! Thats about it for me today! I gotta get back to paying attention to my night class. What a wonderful diversion, wouldn't you agree? See you soon!

They Can't Play in the Rock Quarry, There's Rocks Down There!

Jan 26, 2012

Hello Everyone! It's thursday! The even of the weekend. I can say as for myself, this has been a really great week! Senior Recital well on its way, Packages from my shop shipped (say that three times fast!), and I got the retail job of my dreams at Freestyle (thanks for your prayers and well wishes everyone), Hooray! AND also, the Muppets is in the cheap theatre!! I have to say, I can't get enough of 'em! I'm gonna make my husband take me:)

ANYWAYS! Hat people of this world: welcome me to your ranks. I have found, not one, but two hats that I absolutely love!  Now I'm on the hunt for more. This is what I decided to wear today. This green dress has got to be one of the most versatile things have ever owned. It's gonna go a long way for me I think.

The weird background of these pictures is outsite of Jessup in the parking lot! haha.

This dress could seriously fit any sized human being. It's so roomy. Also, it's completely sheer, so underneath this dress is the AA blue racer back tank dress. Otherwise this dress would cause quite the scandal!

Well everyone, thats about it for me today! I hope you've all had a great week! I sure did! I can't believe all the things I've gotten accomplished! hooray for me, and hopefull hooray for you as well as you prepare to go into the weekend! See you soon!

A continual atmosphere of hectic passion

Jan 24, 2012

Hi Everyone! I hope you're having a great week thus far. Mine's been pretty uneventful. Thus far, but we shall see. I've already ran my errands and I still have school and worship practice, so even thought it's already the afernoon, I stil have a full day ahead of me. Should be fun!

One fun thing that I did do was... interview at Freestyle! They are opening a Folsom store, and I can't think of more of a dream part-time job, which hopefully after graduation would turn into more than that! So, prayers and well wishes would be very much appreciated.

Anyways, this is what I decided to wear today. How fun is this little red hat? I can already hear my mom "you look like a little red hat lady". Well, to that I say... today, I litterally am a red hat lady. It really has a fun vibe I think.

Just an FYI, I am in fact wearing tights. My legs, while they have not seen the light of day since last july, aren't that white, but I'm pretty sure they're not far off.

Well everyone, thats about it for me, I have to rush off to school. I wanted to make sure I was able to get an interview, so thats why this post is so brief. So much to do, so little time. See you soon!

Yo Adrian, I did it

Jan 21, 2012

Happy Saturday everyone! It’s been quite a week for me! Back to school, and craziness abounding. I still have so much to do it’s sick, but that’s okay. I like being busy actually! I love being productive. I shipped off a few orders from my Etsy shop, and turned in my rented movie (wow… redbox gets expensive when life gets busy!), and last and most importantly… I have booked my Senior Recital. that’s right everyone. Everything I have to show my musical career as a music Student at William Jessup University will come to pass on May 5th in the William Jessup University Lecture Hall at 7:30pm. Wow… I really can’t wait.  It’s kind of ironic thinking that I have more time to plan this recital than I did to plan my own wedding! Haha.

Anyways, This is what I decided to wear today. The weather has taken a turn for the cold and windy. I mean… it is winter, so I guess that nice warm weather wasn’t going to last forever! Also... doesn't this look like something Adrian, Rocky Balboa's wife, would wear? Thats a plus for me. Also a plus,  I found a gigantic hole in the fence and ventured into the complex next door, and found even better scenery! Adventure!!

You can’t even really tell, but this dress is asymmetrical. It’s one of those mullet style dresses. It’s also short sleeved. But I covered it up with a sweater and a coat.

Aren’t these boots glorious? I decided that I was over my black over the knee boots, so I sold them at Freestyle. And Lo and behold, these beauteous boots came into the store. It was like they were waiting for me to need different boots. I couldn’t resist them.

Anywyas, that’s about it for me today. I really liked this picture spot, so on the days I’m not taking pictures at school, I might make this one of my regular locales. We’ll see. Well everyone, I hope your weekend is awesome! See you soon.

Is Bigfoot Real? Can 27 People Be Wrong?

Jan 13, 2012

Hello Everyone! I realize that it's almost 9PM, but hey better late than never for a post, right?! I've really had quite the full day. Coffee, Friends, Shopping, Forcing people onto this blog, babysitting, wow. Really super great way to spend the last day of break, if I didn't have the option of spending every single second with my husband, which I didn't. AND since I didnt, I went to coffee with the ever wonderful Erin, who I always go to coffee with, at the ever delicious, Shady Coffee and Tea, where I always have coffee! I actually have significantly cut down my Starbucks drinking this break. I mainly made my own coffee, and I'm very happy about the money I saved doing so. Easily over 100 dollars. double wow.

Also: Last night I rented the Movie Joody Moody and the Not Bummer Summer. Nathan hated it. It's a movie for 12 year old girls! Of course he hated it! But... seeing past the very obvious silly facade of the kiddiness, I loved it. It was so sweet, and Heather Graham as the Crazy Aunt Opal was awesome. I really do like kid movies not like Spy Kids kid movies, but kid books turned into movies, like Diary of a Wimpy Kid. PLUS, it scores majorly with the kids that babysit. However, I asked Luca and Dario if they were into Joody Moody....evidently it's only for girls, and they have no interest in it.

Despite their lack of leaves, the Trees really add to the beauty of old roseville.
Erin and I are embracing an incresing internet trend that I've noticed hasn't really caught on here in Roseville...Yet. Trust me. My prediction is the next expensive "ugly" shoe trend will be these Dansko Proffessionals. I know they're not the most beautious shoes, but gosh, they are so comfy. And, for the record, I find them cute. Especially in black paten and leopard print! Ours are actually the knock-offs from Kohls, but they look identical, and there were literally 95% cheaper.
Dancin it up in our Danskos. Celebrating our comfort and our frugality. Go us.
Well everyone, thats about it for me. Tomorrow Nathan has a Tattoo appointment in Stockton, so you know what that means! Hooray! Family time! Seriously, nothing funner. I hope you all have a fantastic weekend everyone! See you soon.

East is East, and West is San Francisco

Jan 9, 2012

Hi Everyone! I hope you’re having a great day! It’s been kind of a crazy weekend for me. Work and Church make for some real busyness between Nathan and I.  Also, probably the cause of all my stress is always school in someway. If it’s not classes themselves, it’s stuff that relates with school, and right now, that’s financial aid. Probably the most stressful thing about school. I was really worried that I would have to pay a ton of money because my medical insurance situation is changing quite abit, but it turns out... I dont owe much at all.  Why do I freak out so much? Silly me. I always have to remember this: the Lord always provides in someway, if that’s in the form of a job or a random check in the mail, or my financial aid covering more than I thought, God always makes a way.

Anyways, enough of stressful talk, let me tell you about my day on Friday! I went with some girlfriends from school to the beautiful city of San Francisco. It really could not have been a more glorious day. Ask the girls, I actually said “This day is literally glorious.” It was so beautiful. The Sun was shining, it wasn’t cold or windy at all. It was perfect.

If you eat at Wipeouts, they give you a coupon for the coffee shop across the way, and the coffee shop gives you this little cookie with your coffee! It was delicious.

Now… I realize that the pier is totally a touristy joint, but you know what, how can you tell me that this isn’t a beautiful place? They still had the Christmas tree up even! It was huge! Gosh. So fun. Oh San Francisco, why are there two toll bridges, so I could visit you more? I know there’s actually a reason, but it was rhetorical, so please don’t tell me. I wish there was a way for this picture to not be so fuzzy, otherwise you would be able to better see the beautious women I spent my day with. It was so fun.

How glorious is this candy shop? It was full of awesomely beautiful candy.

Here’s a shameless GPOY. What did I tell you about this sweater? Im obsessed with it! I try to wear it as often as I can, and I'm not ashamed to tell the world!

Oh, I just wanna go back so bad and walk all over that beautiful city! Well you wonderful people. There’s my weekend update for you. I hope your weekend was awesome! I’m thinking about getting my bangs trimmed this week. What are your thoughts about blunt bangs? I like them. Who knows. I’ll see you soon.
