Identity and Modern Womanhood

Mar 2, 2016

Happy Wednesday to you all! I hope your week is going well thus far. Today started a little sad for me, Nate left for tour yesterday, but he'll be back right before Spring Break, so that's a good thing. Also, school is so crazy, I'm able to find distraction and comfort at work. I know Nate loves being on tour, and he is living out his dream, so that makes it a little easier too.

Anyways, for the past few weeks I've been super burdened to talk about this subject, but I've had a hard time putting it on paper (or screen). Do things sometimes bother you, but you can't really put your finger on it? That's how I've been since seeing the previews for Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising, How to be Single, and The Boss. I wasn't mad about what I was seeing, I was sad.  During the course of these movie previews My heart broke as I watched our mainstream media send a very clear message: Gentleness and Modesty are equal to weakness or backwards thinking, and what you want is all that matters. There are all these preconceived ideas what modern women should be doing. I'm not so sure.

"If you don't decide who you are the world will do it for you." This is a saying I discuss in my high school Bible class. I think applies to all people of any age. What is the world turning us women into? Does strong womanhood and sense of self mean that you are entitled, that you have the right, to indulge your every whim even or especially at the expense of others? I think generally, the World's reply might be "yes" and it breaks my heart. I don't bring this up to condemn, I just want to challenge what modern womanhood looks like. Gentleness, Kindness, Modesty (not having to do with how much our little you wear), are not synonymous with weakness, or lameness. I couldn't think of  a smarter sounding word.

If we look to the Word, the entire book of Ecclesiastes shows that no excess of indulgence will ever truly fulfill us. We won't find who we are or who we want to be by serving ourselves only, we will only find loneliness. Ladies, there are Godly and courageous women all over our Bible. Being Gentle or Modest does not mean we sit quietly and just let the world go by. By no means!Look at Deborah in Judges! When the king is too cowardly to fight for the God of Israel in Battle, she suits up!  Esther, when she realizes her people are in danger of mass genocide, she goes to the king expecting to be killed, but having great faith that Lord the will see her through. Ruth, is a Moabite, but she is loyal, and sticks with Naomi to the very end, eventually marrying Boaz, the kinsman's redeemer and is the grandmother of King David. Mary is a teenage girl engaged to be married and the Lord gives her the Job of being the mother to the Jesus, the Man of Sorrows, knowing he is going to be the Savior but having no clue how it would all go down. Not to mention being pregnant with baby that's not Joseph's. Courageous, Gentle, Kind, Modest. Strong.

What do you think? Do you see this trend growing? Am I overly sensitive? Am I backwards? It's all food for thought, but I would love to hear what you think.

See you soon!

This is the sleeping bag we took to the museum, isn't it?

Hi Everyone!! Happy Saturday! Who knows that from this point on, life gets wayyy too crazy? While Christmas will be approaching sooner that we realize, I really am concentrating on slowing down and really enjoying this fall winter? It’s Cold, but it’s sunny…perfect. The trees still have their leaves, they’re just yellow, and red. I love love love fall. Our winters here in Northern California aren’t really much of a winter wonderland, they’re actually more like a rainy winter drudgery. Once Christmas is over, I’m ready for it to start getting warm.

Anyways! This isn’t what I decided to wear today. This is actually what I decided to wear to school yesterday. I was channeling Margot Tennenbaum pretty hardcore yesterday in this coat. I don’t think anyone at school made that connection, but with my hair pinned to the side, its dead on. I found this little baby at my favorite Thrift store in Stockton, It felt like a risk to me, but my mom said I needed it, so I went with it. Everyone needs a camel colored coat, especially one with a fur collar. It feels so fancy!

Well everyone, that’s about it for me today. Enjoy this Saturday, take a little time to enjoy this fall weather, Everyone should go to Starbucks and get a Salted-Carmel Mocha and just sit outside in the chill, after Im done typing this, that’s exactly what I’m going to do. Ill see you soon!

They’re As Serious As Any Sovereign Nation About Preservation

Jul 20, 2011

Hello! I hope you guys are all having a great Wednesday thus far. Mine’s going pretty great to be honest. As I’m typing this I’m actually watching the commentary on the DVD of mine and Nathan’s latest obsession…which just happens to be the Sons of Anarchy!! Ha! I know, how incredibly random right? Nathan brought them home from his Dad’s house, and they just sat there in our DVD box forever. When I was sick watching the same DVDs over and over and over, I finally pulled out SOA, and ironically enough, I was hooked. I guess I secretly long for life on the edge… That my friends is the opposite of truth, I love my very far away from the edge life. Which then brings me to my next DVD review… ha.
We rented Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2: Roderick Rules. I loved it! It’s so sweet and funny, and for lack of better terms, family friendly. I think I’ll definitely be buying these movies for my children when they are old enough to care about movies, when I actually have kids. I like kid movies in general, they’re super funny without being vulgar. PS. Steve Zhan is the dad! How can you not love a movie when the dad is Steve Zhan!! He’s so believable! If my dad weren’t so amazingly awesome, I think I’d like the dad from this movie to be my dad.

ANYWAYS! This is what I decided to wear today. It kind of reminds of West Side Story for some reason, you know, I just wanna break out with “Tonight, Tonight”. I think it’s because of the shape and color of the top, mixed with the brightness and the shape of the skirt.

I mentioned this in my very first post ever, how awkward it can be to just go and take pictures of your self posing and trying to be cool. The reason I’m smiling so huge is because Nathan opened the window and scared me! So much for being really cool!!

These are my Disneyland sandals. That’s what I call them. They’re perfect for walking around all day. You can wear them with shorts and a Mickey mouse shirt (or this skirt, speaking of Disney) and then when you wanna go to dinner, you just put on a cute dress and the metallic gold makes them kinda dressy.

Well everyone, that’s about it for me today. My dearest friends from my childhood are coming to visit tomorrow! I seriously. Can. Not. Wait. It’s gonna be so great! Pictures to come for sure! See you soon!

A bank robber's not gonna know what a hydrangea bush is

Jun 20, 2011

Hi everyone! I hope your weekend was great, mine was for sure. I hope you all honored your dad’s appropriately!! Ha. I got my dad some barista stuff from Starbucks, because you know, he’s a barista, and now when I come over, he can make me all sorts of yummy drinks!! HaHa, But seriously, I my dad is a great barista at home, and I was happy to help him add to his collection of delectable delights. My dad is seriously the best. Nathan and I saw the movie, The Green Lantern (another super-hero movie, of course), and it was alright, I liked Super 8 better. There were no ingeniously creative children saving the day in this movie… I mean Ryan Reynolds is cute enough, but he’s no Wubby.

Anyways! This is what I decided to wear today. I’ve had this awesome vintage halter dress for two years, and I have no plans of ever getting rid of it. I’ve mentioned before my love for prints, and the print of this dress is no exception. The white hydrangeas are just too much. I had white and green hydrangea’s in my wedding bouquet, they’re my favorite-ist flowers.

This is my mother-in-law’s gorgeous home. Everything about it is something I love. It was built in the 1920’s and has had quite a bit of renovation, so the house is literally a rock. I honestly think that if an earthquake hit, the houses on this street would be totally safe.

It’s pretty evident by these pictures that Nathan’s mom, Debbie, loves this home. She is the one responsible for it’s beauty. Not to mention Nathan’s dad’s impeccable gardening skills. I would sit on this back porch all day with a glass of lemonade if I could. They only bummer is, where there are beautiful flowers, there are tons of bees!! While I was out here I had to really be careful, especially with a floral dress on! Good grief!

Well you guys, that’s about it for me today. I hope you all had a wonderful weekend, and I hope that the rest of your week is just as wonderful! I’m gonna get back to watching Hoarders…See you soonJ
