Luna Lovegood, and why I like Halloween.

Oct 30, 2015

Hello There!
I don't know about you, but I feel like these past few weeks have been absolutely crazy! October is hands down the busiest time of the school year. It's super festive and fun, but it's hard to find time to catch your breath. In fact, I'm only finding time because it's Homecoming and I don't plan on going home before the big game!

Here's what's been going on with the Parrish people lately :)

It's FINALLY starting to kind of feel like Fall here in Northern California. I wore this to school today... it was 55 in the morning, but it's now 85...so I'm regretting the wool coat.
We carved pumpkins this week. I made Jack Skellington. I also used the flashlight on Nate's phone for the sake of this picture. Nate took me to the pumpkin patch, and there would have been more pictures of festive fall cuteness, but the wind just wouldn't allow it. That's okay...not all moments need to be documented on Instagram or this blog.

Nate decided he was gonna really go for it with his pumpkin and make something really intricate. Look how cute he is when he's concentrating.
Aaaaaand last but not least, I carved pumpkins with my kids at school.  I was introduced the pumpkin patch devotion this year. What a great way to illustrate how God picks us up off the ground and very intentionally designs us for something awesome. I know that Christian sub-culture kind of frowns on Halloween, but I feel personally (and you don't have to agree, I'm okay with that) that by not doing something I would otherwise love (wear a cute costume and eat yummy treats) I am letting the enemy win. Jesus owns October 31. You can call it Halloween, Harvest, Harvestween, whatever. I call it halloween. But, why should I be deprived of the awesomeness that is fall-time festivities? I know what Halloween is about. I've even heard sermons about the evilness of Halloween. BUT...How many people will know that I love Jesus if I turn off all the lights and lock my doors, or even worse, hand out pennies and toothbrushes? With that being said, I'm gonna carve my pumpkins, dress up (as a witch...Luna Lovegood to be exact) , and hand out individually wrapped candies that are safe, and do my best to reflect Jesus on a day that could probably use more of that.

Lazy Monday Morning

Jun 24, 2013

Hello everyone! Happy Monday to you! We have been having kind of weird weather lately here in Northern California. Two days ago it was 95, today its 75 and raining! Crazy I tell ya. Anyways, rainy days are the perfect excuse for super comfy outfits. This grey dolman sleeve top is probably my most favorite shirt right now. It's so comfy, and light weight so I can still wear it in the summer. I do apologize for Theodore photo quality, I only have my iPad to work with. Seriously Apple, you couldn't have equipped the iPad with a better camera? Oh well.

This is what I wore today. Navy cargos, grey t shirt, sandals. Perfect for rain and harry potter marathons. Cater outfits coming soon! Promise!

Well everyone, I'll be posting my thriftiness adventures from last week soon. For more up to date stuff, follow me on the instagram machine, at parrishthethoughtblog! See you soon!

I'll Lock My Heart In My Tower

Jul 24, 2011

Hello Everyone! I’m blogging on a Sunday! Is that allowed? Heck yeah it is. I guess if you’re really stiff, I shouldn’t tell you that I’m also watching Harry Potter! AND since my wubby is so sick, I’m also not going to church this morning! Oh my goodness. Just kidding. While I sincerely love the Lord, and love going to church, I don’t believe that Harry Potter is evil in the slightest! In fact I love Harry Potter, and I cried in Part 2 of the Deathly Hollows, and raised a fist of victory when Neville triumphed over evil. I have a special place in my heart for Neville. I don’t know why, I’m such a person my mystery. Ha.

ANYWAYS! I wasn’t sure if Nathan was up to going to church, and since I wake up much earlier than him anyways, I got ready for church just in case. If we had gone, this is what you would have seen me in. I’ve had this dress for years. Its probably the most flattering dress I own. Obviously this is a summer dress, because if I were to wear this in the winter, It would be the same color as my skin!! I have to have a little bit of a summer glow in order to wear it.

I really love how long the bow is in the back. And on a funny note, look at my eagle claw hand clenching onto that pole... what the heck was I doing?

When I first bought this dress, I was buying it for a photo shoot for when I was a full-time musician. What a little baby I was!! Cute little 21 year old Rachel. Look at that hair! Where have those past 5 years gone? Crazy. I think I was going for a Pride and Prejudice look… when am I not? Anyways, I don’t like wearing the dress with the tie in the front anymore because I feel like it looks a little bridesmaids-y. If you're curious as to what my music sounded like, you can go to my old myspace page: www.myspace.com/rachelbishop. Wow, these pictures seem ancient.
both photos: Caleb Kuhl
PS: How funny is this: the guy who did my photos was a contestant for the Bachelorette Season 5!!! How crazy is that?! I had no idea. He truly is a great guy. Obviously he did not win. But he is a very very talented and driven photographer. Yay! I kinda feel like I know a celeb (even though I clearly do not). haha.
Well everyone, that’s about it for me today. It’s my Grandma’s birthday today, so my parents are taking her to the State Fair. If it weren’t so expensive to go, me and Nathan would so be there! As it is, we’re gonna meet up with them later for dinner. Hooray! Well everyone enjoy this beautiful Sunday afternoon. See you soon!!

O, wind, if winter comes, can spring be far behind?

Greetings from Stockton everyone! I'm sure you've all been made perfectly aware of the fact that Stockton CA has been named America's most Miserable Town. I have to say, that is very inaccurate. Until recently I lived my whole entire in life in Stockton, and I must tell you, I am a very happy person. I'm also happy to be from Stockton. Granted there is a lot of need, and the school system is in the toilet (along with the rest of the state of CA), and there are no jobs, but the efforts being made by people to help others are awesome. The Lord is truly working in the city of Stockton, and I know that there are much more miserable places to live... like... Galt, or Rio Linda! haha. No offense Galt and Rio Linda.

Anyways, I finally went out and bought a Tripod! I have been propping up my camera against books and candles and stuff this whole time. Very inconvient, and very time consuming. It took forever because the camera would constantly fall down and I'd have to try something else... it was silly. So I ran out to Target and picked up a tripod.

SO... in the spirit of my Tripod. Here is what I wore today:) I've worn this sweater on this blog before, it's very unique, so I have to wear it sparingly, even thought it really is one of my favorite articles of clothing. This picture is taken out in my dad's workshop in front my Grandma's (who lives with my parents) sewing stuff. She's pretty crafty. I also did not make the same mistake I made yesterday by wearing sandals. I made sure I had warmershoes on today.

Sweater: Sleeping on Snow from Freestyle, Top: Ann Taylor from Freestyle, Skirt: AA, Tights: DKNY, Boots: Vintage Justin
It was extremely windy out, so pictures outside were pretty much a no go. I dont mind rain so much, umbrellas can be really great acessories, but wind? there's nothing you can do with the wind
This blouse is one of my favorite tops that I own. The ruffles are just perfect. I feel like when I wear really ruffley things the bigness of the ruffles make my head to look too small, so I usually I try to stay away from big ruffles. But these are dramatic, and still small. It's the pleatedness that does it for me.

Look at my little buddy Oscar, he is so precious. I was eating a bowl of popcorn, so it wasn't looking at the camera, he was looking at the popcorn. He's a cock-a-poo which means, since he's part Poodle, he doesn't shed! He and Chico are the bestest of friends.
This ring is the best! Nothing says "I'm ready for the sun to come out" like a little deer walking through flowers!
The paintings in the background are paintings that my husband did for my parents. Aren't they beautiful? I'm so proud of my wubby. He's such a talented guy. Nathan  has two tattoo appointments today, so we'll be here in Stockton all weekend. ALSO this: I may start working in Stockton on Saturdays at Campbell's in the Village at Lincoln Center... This makes me very excited, I worked there a long time ago, and I am more than happy to work there again. The Managers and the co-workers there are great, so I'm glad to go back. So, Hopefully that works out, what a great thing that would be.

Well, thats about it for me, the time has come for me to go to the thrift store with my mom. Stay warm and snuggle with someone you love.  Harry Potter is on ABC Family so you'll have something to watch!! See you soon
