Real Talk with Mrs. Parrish

Mar 5, 2015

Hey Everyone! Have you ever wondered where fashion/lifestyle bloggers find the time to look cute every day? I really do.Especially the one's that have jobs. I actually do make an effort every single morning to do my hair, and put on something cute, but when it comes to really doing my make-up, it just doesn't happen. I hate feeling like I have to rush, so I go to work bare-faced. I will say, my skin loves me for it. Maybe if I didn't have to work until 9am, I would have the time/energy to do my make-up, but since I commute, and school starts at 7:40, good skincare is all I've got.

So today I say, "If it's wrong to to post pictures of your outfits while not wearing make up in your classroom, then I don't want to be right!"

Here I am, not wearing make-up! This is how I normally look at school. I wear these glasses to appear like I kind of made some sort of beauty effort. To be truthful, I am in no way trying to make a statement by not wearing make-up, It's just that, in the battle between having coffee and wearing make-up...coffee always wins!

I'm A Part Of This Now

Jun 24, 2014

Hello everyone! It has been over a year since I've posted anything on this little ol' blog, and quite frankly I am ashamed. However! If you are social media savvy, and you are following me on other forms of internet narcissism, you have not been left out of the loop. I am still teaching and doing ministry with my husband and we are loving it. Which does bring me to my next announcement I guess, we have moved! Yes, we are living in Downtown Napa, CA now, and for the 7 days that we have lived here, we love it. I thought I would share a little bit of our new home with you. Please stay around for future posts, as I am wanting to get back into blogging. I've missed this little piece of my life :)

So, the place isn't really finished obviously, but I was so excited about the place I had to share something with you all.

I really love older homes. Mostly becasue they just have so much more charm and character than newer buuildings. I believe our place was built in the 40's. What made mee want the place from moment I stepped in was this Hutch, and the built-in shelving. They are the perfect places for Nathan and I to put all of our treasures. And because the place is all white, my cerditos, and nate's Marvel collection really add the perfect amount of color

I know it's not a lot to show now, but once the place is really put together, I'll not hesitate to share again. It's Summer! Which means, I am on vacation, and will have plenty of time to blog. In between my new  town adventures of course! If you're familiar with Napa and have a favorite resaraunt, or vintage shop, or coffee place! Let me know! I am in the mood for serious exploration! see you soon!

Better Late Than Never Again

Jun 2, 2013

Holy! Hello everyone! It been about 5 or even 6 months since my last post, I realize that as far as blogging is concerned, that's just not acceptable! However, I had no clue as to how extremely one-sided my life would become. Seriously though, there were only two things that consumed my mind: teaching and making sure I spent time with my husband. I had very little time for a life. That's probably why my dear pastor, (and more importantly) friend Vanessa was called into ministry, to make sure people keep their eyes on Jesus and remember that their jobs shouldn't consume their lives. But hey, I think if as a teacher, you're not struggling to let school become your life, at least as first anyways, then you might be doing it wrong. Also, I teach the life of Christ, literally, that is the name of my bible curriculum. Im teaching a subject that I really have given my life to. It's not that I've given up part of my life to Christ, I live only in Christ. It's tough to strike balance when you teach a subject that you've devoted your entire self to.

Anyways!! I'm gonna try this summer to be better about updating this blog, one major perk of being a teacher, summer vacation! I'll have something I haven't  had in almost a year: time. There was a time when I would do this everyday. how? It's a mystery. It really is.

Anyways, here are a few of the high lights from this school year.

This actually has nothing to do with school, but with normal life 3 out of the 4 in this group are Kingdon band-wives, and our men were rockin it at the Sleep Train Arena at the Kings game! Pretty fun!
This precious darling of a lady was my TA this year. She was also in my choir. Three awesome facts about this girl:
1)She's hilarious!
2) She's SUPER creative
3) She's a brainiac. She's so so so smart!
Needless to say, I'm going to miss her. But I know that the Lord's got some amazing things in store for her. Also how do you not love a TA who get your Starbucks?! I mean...c'mon!
This very blurry picture (taken with my iPad) is our Choir rocking it in LA at he Heritage Performance Festival. We took first in our division! I couldn't have been more proud! Also, I'm very pleased to inform you that my group will be twice this size next year. When you have more fun than any other group of people on earth, word gets out!
They might be goofballs, but they're my goofballs, and I truly adore them.
When my seniors in Choir didn't have class they would often wander into my class and hangout. Occasionally they would draw my some awesome artwork. I had quite the gallery. When you're having a not-so pumped about life kind of day, it's always nice to have these kinds of things to look at. I'll probably keep these forever.
My little brother got married!! The one in the middle. Even though my other brother isn't on the market (so back off) he still has some bachelor-ing to do.

Also, I wrote a million tests and quizzes. This fake answer, I'm particularly proud of :)
Also, I got my craft on, and crocheted this cat-hat! I embraced the silly trend, but in a dignified way? haha. right.
And oh yes. Spirit week. This day was Wild and Wacky day. Somehow Symphony totally pulled off those glasses, and I totally couldn't.
Well everyone thats it for now. What a year, What an awesome awesome year. It's amazing how the Lord used inadequate people to do His work. I couldn't have possibly done it on my own. He gets all the Glory. I'll see you soon!

It's the hap- happiest season of all

Dec 11, 2012

Hello everyone. Two days in a row! Go me! I can't believe that there was a time when I found time to do this every day!! Crazy! Anyways, today was our last Christmas performance for choir, I'm so proud of my students. I have been cracking the whip for the past 3 months, and they have worked so hard. Go them!

Anyways, this is what I wore to school today. Usually when we have a performance, I wear all-black. However, all my black clothes were dirty, so I wore whatever what I wanted. I didn't mean to look so Christmas-y, but hey! It's christmastime!

Oh praise the one who paid my debt

Aug 27, 2012

Hello everyone!! Happy Monday to you! I've never been a hater of Mondays and I'm still not. In fact, now that summer is over and I have stuff to do... All the time, I'm starting to really like them! I'm thinking of starting an instagram post every week, probably Fridays. It's casual Friday at vcs, and I have to wear a vcs t- shirt with jeans. And I'm not complaining at all, any place that lets you dress comfy, I'm all about.. But you know me, if given the option, I'll always wear a dress.

Speaking of which this is what I decided to wear today. Isn't this the funnest dress you ever laid your eyes on? I love the colors!

First Week Finish

Aug 25, 2012

Hello everyone!! I did it! I have officially survived my first week of school as a high school teacher. Let me tell you. I.love.it. The faculty, the students, the subject I get to teach. I love it all. Probably the one thing I could live without is.... Having to lay down the hammer. But I'm figuring out how to conduct class so I have to do that less and less.

Also: this is really exciting, the students in my choir and myself, are arranging our own song to share with the pastors of our community, and also their grandparents. I would invite my grandma, but she lives too far away. Anyways, let's just keep it short and simple. I'm in love with teaching. It's all I can talk about these days!

This is obviously not what I wore today, I'm not in my classroom on a Saturday but here's what I wore yesterday. I'm looking for a camera with a self timer that actually take good pictures from my iPad. Any app suggestions?

My strong recommendation

Aug 23, 2012

Gosh. Hello everyone. Happy Thursday to you! Let me tell you that I have never been so exhausted in my whole life. I have to wake up super early in order to get to school on time, but I new that from the beginning. I was totally prepared. But what I'm learning big- time, is the emotional exhaustion! I'm constantly "on" like a performance. It's crazy!

But let me tell you this. I love it. It's almost crazy how much I love my new teaching job. If anyone is thinking of gong into education, I would recommend it very highly. Isn't it funny how we think we know what we want, but really it's god who knows. He knows us so well. I love how the lord constantly and graciously tells me " I told you so!"

Anyways, this is what I decided to wear today. My mom bought this skirt for herself and decided she didn't want it. Aren't the colors and print out of control? Also, you all now how I feel about danskos. Well, these are a different style than the traditional ones obviously, but they are just as comfortable, and a little more dressy.

One for the rhythm

Aug 21, 2012

Hello everyone! Happy Tuesday to you! I hope you're having a great day! I really am. Yesterday may have very well been one of the craziest/ scariest/ most exciting days in my whole life. today has been a totally different story. I'm on my way to finding what I call my teaching rhythm.

I have to say though, it's tough for me not ramble on and on when I get talking about jesus. There's so much to say! Luckily I have a whole school year to pace it out. But with Jesus I feel like ten month still isn't enough.

This is what I decided to wear today. The other way I'll ever have time for this blog is if I edit it from my iPad, so while the point and shoot weren't the best, the app I have with a self timer isn't super great either.

Who pushed you over? Was it Phillip?

Aug 2, 2012

Hello everyone!! I hope you're having a great day, I am! I'm actually blogging at the ever wonderful Shady Coffee and Tea in Roseville! ANYWAYS!! Today is kind of my like mine and Nathan's friday, because he actually ends his week on Thursdays! Since we only have one car for the time being, I get to take him to work and pick him up! It seams really inconvenient, but I actually enjoy it, and Nathan gets me starbucks every morning! What a sweet husband!

Speaking of sweet husbands, Out of nowhere, he just said, "You look pretty today". And I know he think I'm pretty, but it's always nice to hear! This is what I decided to wear today. Pretty basic. I tend to stay away from denim skirts. They kind of remind me of religious fundamentalists who aren't allowed to wear pants or cut their hair or wear make-up. Or a cow girl. But for whatever reason I really needed this skirt. Also... it was $1.99.

These ballet flats were the find of the century for me, yesterday, when I went to Freestyle. I rewarded myself with shopping after I drove all the way to the salvage yard to see if I could pull anything from the wreckage that was once my beautiful corolla. Thankfully, I found a lot of stuff that was untouched by the fire, including Nathan's in-ear monitors, which are like...$400! Totally worth the drive into a weird part of Sacramento. Salvage yards are never in the fancy neighborhood.
You know, just casually holding my lipgloss.
I was thinking of buying a pair of TOMS for school anyways, so you could imagine my delight when I spotted these!

haha! It looks like I'm staring right into the sun! I'm not.

Well, everyone, thats about it for me today. Tomorrow Nathan and I are embarking on our one and only summer vacation before my new Job starts on MONDAY!!! AHHHH! We're going to Santa Cruz. I can't wait! I've been souring the thrift stores for cute stuff to wear, and all the swim sales for a new bathing suit. Can you believe it's been almost 2 years since I bought a bathing suit? Whatever. See you soon!

When I was 11, I Audited My Parents

Jul 24, 2012

Hello everyone, Happy tuesday to you. It's been a pretty dull day. I haven't even had my coffee yet. So besides being dull as of now, everything is kind of a blur. I did however manage to watch The Other Guys and beat my high score in Solitaire. Yes. Very exciting things happening with my this morning.

But lets get something out in the open here, Emily chose Jef!? Weird. I've always been pretty good at decifering which guy the bachelorette was going to pick, but I have to admit. I never saw that coming. My pick was Sean, I knew he couldn't win. He was too nice, too American. So. American.

Anyways, here's what I decided to wear today. I've be wearing my hair in a bun every single day for the past 6 months I feel like. I dont enjoy my hair down right now. It desperately needs a little bit of a styling. Thursday can't come soon enough. However, I did attempt the center part today. It's never too late to be late to the party I guess.
I am obsessed with the color Coral these days. One of my dearest friends chose it as her wedding color way back in 2009 (our anniversary is 5 months apart, and she flew alllllll the way from New York to be in my wedding. What a blessing to have lifelong friends), and I was skeptical, but I was proven wrong when every single. very different looking, girl looked absolutely glowing in their dress. Whit was so ahead of the times :) She still is.

Are those blue cherries? I can't really tell, but I dont care. Also, here's some lacey-lace for your delight. Just a little bit of trend over-load. What of it.

Here's a few pictrues of our weekend adventures. When my parents came for the weekend they took us to Thai Food, Freestyle, and then last but not least, arguably the best ice cream on the west coast: LEATHERBY'S. If you are ever ever ever in the Sacramento area, you have to go there.  The ice cream is insane!! They also have food, but who cares about food when there's ice cream? I sincerely believe that.
This is a lovely picture of my parents...behind my tower of ice cream. I shared (meaning I totally ate most of it myself) with my wubby. This creation is the chocolate sundae with Peanut Butter sauce. Yes this does exist, and I do now have type 2 diabetes.
Sunday after church, we went to Lucille's for lunch. good food and obviously, better company. This is my best friend, June. We're best friends.
Also, I thought I would share with you this picture. This is my husband. At work. Holding a Thor hammer, and his best buddy, Jordan, In...I honestly don't know. The Puffy shirt from Seinfeld? Either way, they get paid to do this. Lordy...Look at those ridiculous boots!!
Well thats about it for me today!! I gotta check the mail and somehow be productive. There's dishes in the sink...I could add that to the list of very exciting things to do today :) See you soon!
